NORTHCOTT (2018)
Between 2011 and 2021 the state government of New South Wales (Australia) sold over $3bn of social housing to private developers, while failing to meet its own targets for new affordable properties. Meanwhile, over 50,000 people are on the social housing wait list in the state.
In Sydney, most social housing developments have already been sold, and the residents relocated. In 2018, Northcott, sitting in the middle of gentrifying neighbourhood Surry Hills, was one of the last remaining estates in the inner-city.
